Celent and Tabb issue Figures on % of HFT in Equities

US: HFT has 55% of the market share for equity trading (Europe: 35%; Japan: 28%; Australia: 20%, Canada 18%; Asia 12%).

Since 2008, in US, HFT has been over 50% of the equity market. Now regulators are wondering if new regs should be brought in to allow more disclosure of/standards for automated trading systems often blamed for sudden, dramatic market volatility. Such disclosures may include disclosure of trading strategies and algorithms.

Celent's Latest Views on FX Spending

Celent, a financial technology research and consulting firm, announced that $1.1bn was spent in 2010 on technology in firms active in fx markets. Technology has pushed margins wafer-thin and mandated the need for more investment in technology to maintain competitiveness.
